Despite the past several weeks of Arctic-like weather, Spring IS coming, although not nearly as quickly as any of us would like. I love the warmer weather that spring brings, but cold winters DO make us appreciate what's ahead. And, a good deep freeze will keep the mosquitoes away once it does start to warm up, at least for a while...
Coastal Delaware, The Eastern Shore, and Cape May offer an incredibly beautiful landscape ideal for family, kids, & wedding photography, and if you are planning on having photos taken this spring, you may want to plan ahead as photographers book up quickly.
#1- The Proposal!
I will never forget this proposal. I received a call from a guy who wanted to propose to his girlfriend. He already purchased the ring and was waiting for the right time to pop the question. It was last-minute since his fiance's parents were visiting and he wanted the weekend to celebrate. That's fair. We hatch a plan on the phone as to how this will go down.
He had shared his location me on his iPhone so I could easily keep track of them. I knew exactly where he would be, when he would be there, and I would be waiting. I arrive early, see the couple approaching designated spot, and reading his body language, he was extremely nervous. I get it, it is nerve-wracking. I kept getting side-eye from him which is him thinking: "YOU BETTER BE READY WHEN I DO THIS". It took a few minutes of him likely babbling incoherently to his girlfriend, but he did it! She was COMPLETELY caught off guard, just like it should be. It was amazing!
#2- The Wedding!
There is no better time for a wedding than spring when the air is warm but light, and the humidity of summer (and bugs) has not yet set in.
This reception was hosted at a picturesque venue I have photographed previously, and the soft, diffused light created by almost 100% cloud cover made these images even more magical. This couple had amazing chemistry, they posed so naturally and elegantly together, you can feel the connection and love between them!
#3- Family Photos!
Couples, kids, and dogs! I love being able to capture the entire family in their own unique way. This couple reached out to me last spring and we chose to meet a local park in the morning since I wanted to take some fun, action shots of the the entire family, their daughter, and two dogs while the sun was low in the sky, & without a crowd.
They arrived on time and ready to go, and I started with the pups as I wanted to get some energy out before trying to get them to sit, relax, and pose. Energy they had, and lots of it! Laying down on the ground gives me great perspective when the dogs are running right towards me.
Their daughter was just happy to be outside, playing with her dogs, then the grass, and I just snapped away. She was amazing!!
#4 Daughter on the Porch!
I have a thing for front porches. Old ones, especially. A front porch is the first thing you see walking up to a home, they can make or break the curb appeal, and are AMAZING backdrops for photos! I am dying to offer mini-sessions somewhere in Lewes this spring on one of the amazingly beautiful old front porches. If you own one of these, please let me know. I would be happy to give you a free session if you allow me to use your porch for a future shoot.
I took this photo a few years ago when I still lived in Chicago. I was a real estate broker for 23 years, and I would offer my clients a little photo session as a closing gift instead of the ever-so-common bottle of wine (sorry, boring). Anyway, a couple in their late 80's had lived in this row home for I believe 50+ years, and it was time for them to move into assisted living closer to family. One weekend their kids and granddaughter came to visit and I decided to offer the session. Three generations together on the porch was amazing, and I will likely write more in another blog, but this particular photo really stands out to me.
Young girl with red hair, a bright pink dress, armbands, temporary tattoos, and sandals. The juxtaposition of an 8 year old girl against a 100 year old old, I love it!
I would love to hear your stories, and see your photos!!
